The workshop provides a critical and analytical environment in which the participants can rethink public space, gender, and performativity during the COVID-19 crisis. As restrictions on the use of public space and physical distancing have been key policy measures to reduce the transmission of the pandemic, our relationship with the public sphere seems to be uncertain or permanently transformed. On the other hand, this unexplored terrain ranging from postponements or cancellations to online responses, virtual approaches, and undermining tactics, instigates us towards fluid and challenging approaches in regard to the social spaces we inhabit.

By exploring gendered-based artistic methodologies of the past and the present in the “public sphere,” the workshop aims to provide the participants with experimental tools and expanded strategies for exploring a public space in constant flux.
